Lorgues is a medieval town, only 4 kms from the house and easily walkable through the forest on the old road, set in the rolling hills of the Var. It was settled by the Knights Templar and was on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostella, hence many chapels by the road side where the pilgrims could stay. The collegiate church of St. Martin is hugely imposing, newly refurbished and is the third largest in the Var. The clock tower in the old part of the village is on the corner of the fortifications and rabbit warren of streets. The main street is a magnificent plane tree avenue which hosts the Tuesday market, antique fairs, farmer’s market etc.
Apart from a huge choice of restaurants in Lorgues, we have Bruno, the famous truffle restaurant two minutes from the house. A must for the gastronomes.
